Rulemaking Petition to Amend Grazing Fee Regulations

Filed on: 2005/11/08

Feb. 20 '09 - Petitioners file addendum clarifying original petition and agencies' existing obligations under NEPA.

Petition seeking to establish a fair fee for livestock grazing on federal public lands, as required under FLPMA and other federal laws.

Nov. 8, '05 - ONDA joins the Center for Biological Diversity and others in petition asking Secretaries of Interior and Agriculture to initiate a rulemaking to amend current grazing fee regulations to reflect the current fair market value of federal forage on the public lands.

A 2005 Government Accountability Office (GAO) report indicates the federal government spends at least $144 million on the federal grazing program annually, recouping less than one-sixth of that cost in grazing fees. Yet, the Forest Service and BLM decreased grazing fees by 40% between 1980 and 2004.
