Camping: is available at the Hot Springs Campground on top of the mountain plateau. This is a primitive campground with outhouses. Rock Creek flows through the campground and it is also the site of the improved hot springs pool. The Hot Springs Campground is approximately 4 miles from the headquarters; keep right at the fork in the road after you pass the HQ. Hiking: A number of hiking opportunities are available at Hart Mountain. Drop by Hart Mountain HQ for hiking maps or click here to download a map of the refuge.
A popular short hike rewards visitors with a 35 foot waterfall at the end. DeGarmo Canyon can be accessed from the County Road 3-12 (which runs north to south along the base of Hart Mtn on the west side). From the junction of Hogback Road and Road 3-12, turn south (right) for approximately 4.6 miles. Before you reach the sign for DeGarmo Canyon look for a side road to the east which is marked by a "No Camping" sign. Follow this road for 0.2 miles and keep right, at 0.3 miles turn left. Park at the mouth of the canyon and hike upstream. The hike is approximately 1.5 miles to the waterfall.
