Gray Wolf

The wolves have returned to the Beaver State! Slowly, but surely, this majestic mammal is returning to Oregon, without any prodding or cajoling from we humans. In July of 2008 the first wolf pack in Oregon in, since the 1940s, was confirmed. This wolf pack was found in Union County in northeast Oregon. In May of 2009 an adult male wolf was caught and radio-collared in far-eastern Oregon. Read more here.

On February 11, 2005, Oregon became the first western state to pro-actively accommodate the existence and responsible management of wolves within its borders when the Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission adopted the Oregon Wolf Conservation and Management Plan. The plan, prepared by the Wolf Advisory Committee (WAC), a citizen advisory committee, recommended several changes to Oregon law to help give more management control to the state.
