Badlands Wilderness Trail Work
June 1 @ 5:00 pm - June 3 @ 12:00 pm
Celebrate National Trails Day on June 2 with trail maintenance in one of the newest wilderness areas in Oregon, and the start of the 750-mile Oregon Desert Trail.
Volunteers will assist the BLM in road-to-trail conversions to help create a wider network of trails within the wilderness area overlapping with Oregon Desert Trail.
The work will involve using a variety of hand tools and collecting natural materials to adhere to a natural method of designating the trails to fit with the wilderness character of this high desert landscape. No previous trail building experience is needed to attend this trip. ONDA will provide all instruction and necessary tools to do the job.
Trip highlights include immersion in the unique character and beauty of the Oregon Badlands Wilderness, and helping to establish a new network of navigable trails for visitors to the Oregon Badlands Wilderness.
Challenges will be physically strenuous work in sandy soils and weather ranging from late spring rains, to hot daytime temperatures.
