Desert Naturalist Hike Series: Ancient Junipers on Horse Ridge Trail
June 14 @ 8:30 am - 3:00 pm
Join educator, scholar and author Rick Miller on a hike across Horse Ridge and its ancient woodlands. Hikers will have the opportunity to take in stunning views, identify some very old junipers and walk through an old burn site developing new growth. With extensive knowledge of the ecology and management of pinyon and juniper woodlands, Rick will give participants a lunchtime presentation on 20,000 years of woodland expansion and contraction across eastern Oregon and the Intermountain West.
Difficulty: Moderate – 4-5 miles round trip, with 1,000 feet in elevation gain. Some hikers find the use of poles or walking sticks useful for balancing on steeper sections of the trail.
Lunch is included, thanks to Valentines Deli!
Please note that space is limited and pre-registration via Eventbrite is required. If the trip is filled when you go to register, we encourage you to sign up for the waitlist as spaces do open up on these hikes.
