Hay Creek BDA Construction #1

July 23 @ 5:00 pm - July 26 @ 10:00 am

The first of three trips building beaver dam analogs (BDAs) on Hay Creek at Cottonwood Canyon State Park in 2020.

This trip will involve a smaller group focused on using a hydraulic pounder to install the wooden posts, perhaps some folks cutting and weaving willow into the post line structure, and many opportunities to escape the heat by working directly in the creek.

Highlights include being an 8-year old kid again building structures in water and splashing around, then looking back to see a huge change in the stream where you have been working.

Challenges: Since the work involves some machinery, there will be some noise and exhaust, but there will also be the opportunity to work away from the noise on more laid-back aspects of the project such as willow harvesting and weaving. No experience required.
