For this High Desert Speaker Series event, we’ll dig below the surface to discover the geologic history of eastern Oregon. Join us for a presentation by Dr. Scott Burns from Portland State University to discover fascinating past events that shaped the landscapes we see today. Travel through time during this evening highlighting the best of your high desert and get inspired for your next trip to see these geologic wonders!
About the speaker
Dr. Scott Burns earned his MS from Stanford University in 1970, and earned his PhD in Geology from the University of Colorado in 1980. Dr. Burns joined the PSU Geology faculty in 1990, bringing with him 20 years of teaching experience. His research interests include environmental geology, soils, landslides, engineering geology, Quaternary geology, radon, hazard mapping, terroir of wines, and the Missoula Floods.
Scott is a past national president of the Association of Environmental and Engineering Geologists (AEG) and vice president of the international sister of the US group, IAEG.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the talk begins at 7 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. Space is limited and pre-registration through Eventbrite is required.
