Pine Creek Conservation Area Beaver Dam Analogue Building
September 17 @ 10:00 am - September 21 @ 4:00 pm
Pine Creek Conservation Area is a great ongoing success story in riparian restoration. Cattle grazing pressure was removed, vegetation recovered and was replanted, beaver dam analogues (BDAs) installed, and now beavers are colonizing and taking over the work. The Creek needs just one more round of BDAs and it should be good to go!
Work opportunities will vary greatly: Everything from using a hydraulic pounder to install wooden posts to cutting and weaving willow.
Highlights include being involved in what really is just fun work: Basically being an 8-year old kid building structures in water and splashing around, then being able to look back and see a huge change in the stream where you have been working.
Challenges: The harder, more physical jobs can be pretty exhausting, but you only need to do those if you want. Also, since the work involves machinery, there is noise and exhaust, but there will also be the opportunity to work away from the noise on more laid-back aspects of the project such as willow harvesting.
