South Fork WSA Fence Build #2
September 9 @ 8:00 am - September 12 @ 5:00 pm
On the second of several trips slated for this area over the next few years, we will backpack out to a piece of privately owned land within the South Fork Crooked River Wilderness Study Area (WSA) to build a challenging, but important, fence around 80 acres on the river.
This fence will accomplish many things. It will allow for better managed grazing within the WSA, directly exclude cattle from nearly a mile of river, and enableONDA to plant willows and cottonwoods along the river.
This is a physically challenging trip. Fence building materials and tools will be already cached along the proposed fence line, but you will need to be able to backpack your personal camping gear and food 3.5 miles into the work site. From that central campsite, you will hike uphill each day to where the fenceline crosses the hillside.
Trip highlights include being in a lovely secluded river canyon. Views from the fenceline are gorgeous, and dehydrated backpacking food never tastes as good as after a day of exhausting work. Read Complete Trip Details
