Spring Basin Trail Inventory
May 17 @ 12:00 pm - May 19 @ 3:00 pm
Celebrate the 10th anniversary of Spring Basin Wilderness with a hike inventory trip.
On this stewardship trip volunteers will learn about sustainable recreation and some basic navigational skills to hike and document the existing trails in the wilderness and scout some new routes to create a series of loop hike options in the area.
Volunteers will hike up to 10 miles a day in the wilderness, practice on-trail and off-trail navigation and adhere to Leave No Trace principles. No previous off-trail hiking experience is needed to attend this trip; ONDA will provide all the instruction and tools necessary to do the job.
Trip highlights include spending time in the beautiful expanse of the Spring Basin Wilderness, working to build an inventory of hikable trails and routes, developing on-trail and off-trail hiking skills, becoming familiar with sustainable recreation best practices and celebrating the 10th anniversary of this spectacular wilderness area.
Challenges will be hiking up to 10 miles a day, backpacking into base-camp (approx. 1 mile) with all water needed for the trip (2 nights, 1 ½ days) and practice with route-finding using map, compass and GPS.
