Hay Creek Riparian Planting #2

Planting native riparian plants alongside recently installed beaver dam analogs (BDAs) on Hay Creek. This trip is the culmination of a season of preparation work: building BDAs to irrigate dry planting areas and building exclosure fences to protect plantings until they are fully established. Trip highlights involve the relative closeness of the project area to Portland allowing for day-trip access if desired, and being an integral part of a long-term effective restoration project with visible results and improvement. In partnership with the Prineville District of the Bureau of Land Management, ONDA leads regular service days to improve the Badlands Wilderness for its human visitors and native wildlife inhabitants. This is the third of three restoration projects on Denny Jones Ranch, a conservation property owned by the Burns Paiute Tribe, that ONDA volunteers will participate in during 2020.
