Your 2019 Resolutions

Jeremy Austin

Do you set resolutions for yourself to celebrate the new year? In 2019, let ONDA help you bring a bit of Oregon’s high desert into your plans for the year.

GET OUTSIDE

Many of us resolve to spend more time outside. Whether you’re seeking a peaceful spot for mindful reflection or you’re looking for heart-racing exercise, you’ll find plenty of places for either in Oregon’s high desert.

Once the snow melts, we recommend getting into the Hart-Sheldon backcountry with a trip to Beatys Butte. Head for a difficult cross-country hike to the summit and spend some time in peaceful reflection, as you’re likely to be surrounded by mule deer and countless bird species. If you’re looking to identify some of the wildlife you hear, compare notes against some sound recordings from the high desert, courtesty of volunteer John Hartog.

BUILD COMMUNITY

As regular ONDA volunteers can attest, our stewardship trips are a fantastic way to build community with fellow Oregonians in far-flung corners of the high desert.

You’ll get to know fellow outdoor enthusiasts while restoring desert land, rivers or trails, and you’ll bond even more around the evening campfire (when allowed). Learn more about our approach to restoration as you plan your calendar to join us in the field this year.

Save the date to sign up for our 2019 stewardship trips on February 25th! Many trips are popular and fill up quickly.

USE YOUR VOICE

If your goal for this year is to become a more fierce advocate for the public lands you love, you can look to ONDA for guidance.

This year, elected officials will need to hear your voice! Oregon Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley regularly host town halls in communities across the state where you can speak up. From permanent protection on the horizon for wild places like the Owyhee Canyonlands and Sutton Mountain, to a process that could prioritize conservation for the next 30 years, your advocacy will make a difference this year.

Make sure that you are signed up to receive timely email updates from ONDA, and we’ll send an alert when opportunities for action arise.
