Denny Jones Ranch Restoration

April 19, 2022 @ 5:00 pm - April 22, 2022 @ 10:30 am

Denny Jones Ranch is a conservation property, east of Juntura, owned by the Burns Paiute Tribe. ONDA has been working with the Burns Paiute Tribe to achieve their restoration goals for this property since 2015 and is encouraged by the impact of our collective efforts.

For this trip, volunteers will spend two days working to remove young, expanding juniper from the ranch.

Western Juniper has been expanding throughout much of its range. The rapid increase has many land managers concerned about the health of the sagebrush-grassland habitat because juniper can displace many of the shrubs and grasses that provide forage to wildlife and at-risk species such as sage-grouse. Junipers also cause problems for many watersheds because they consume large amounts of water as compared to other shrubs or grasses.

You will enjoy morning and evening fires to cut the spring chill, a hot springs excursion and exploring an incredible property owned by the Burns Paiute Tribe and managed as wildlife habitat.
