Kicking off ONDA’s 2022 High Desert Speaker Series is a conversation with filmmaker Faith E. Briggs. For years, Faith would run through the streets of Brooklyn each morning, before turning her attention to run 150 miles through three US National Monuments to assess the stakes of public lands conservation and what is lost if previously protected lands are reduced. This talk will feature a screening of her short film “This Land” and Faith’s personal story to share lessons learned as a budding “conservationist” working through a cultural lens, weaving in reflections on people, entry points to conservation movements, and place.

About the Speaker

Faith E. Briggs is a documentary filmmaker and podcast host working at the intersection of environment, race, history and culture. Her background working with youth from underserved communities underlined for her the importance of media and she fell in love with documentary film. While working at the Discovery Channel, she realized the importance of environmental justice conversations to public health and conservation conversations. Both behind and in front of the camera, she works to create media representative of the world we live in and the better one we are working together to create.

Registration is required to receive the link to this virtual event, which will be hosted on Zoom. Registration will close two hours before the event begins. You will receive the Zoom link one hour before the event. All registrants will also receive a captioned recording of the presentation after the event.
