South Fork Fence Build

May 18, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - May 21, 2023 @ 12:00 pm

This is an exciting and physically demanding trip. We will backpack out to an inholding owned by the Oregon Desert Land Trust within the South Fork Crooked River Wilderness Study Area (WSA) to complete the construction of an important fence around 80 acres on the river. This fence will directly exclude cattle from nearly a mile of river and enable ONDA to plant willows and cottonwoods along the river in the future.

This is a physically challenging trip. Fence building materials and tools are already cached along the proposed fence line, but you will need to be able to backpack your personal camping gear and food 3.5 miles into the work site. From that central campsite, you will hike each day to where we will be building fences across the river.

Trip highlights include being in a lovely secluded river canyon. Views from the fence line are gorgeous, and dehydrated backpacking food never tastes as good as after a day of exhausting work.
