ONDA’s High Desert Speaker Series Presenters Have Stories and Knowledge To Share
Do you know how many officially designated Wild and Scenic Rivers there are in eastern Oregon? Do you know the Ichiskhkiin word for salmon?
Attending Oregon Natural Desert Association’s High Desert Speaker Series is a great way to build your high desert knowledge. This series of free lectures runs January through April with events held in both Portland and Bend, Oregon.
Registration is now open for the first events in this popular speaker series. Each talk is free and open to the public. Guests are asked to reserve their seats in advance, with registration opening one month prior to each event. In 2018, this popular speaker series features a wide range topics related to the high desert — restoration, conservation advocacy, the reproductive strategies of plants and animals, the history of the Warm Springs Tribe, and rafting Wild and Scenic Rivers — all told by inspiring storytellers.

- February 13: The Birds and the Bees: Sex Lives of High Desert Plants and Animals with LeeAnn Kriegh, author of The Nature of Bend
- March 27: A Conversation with Warm Springs Tribal Elder Bruce Jim,Warm Springs Tribal Elder and Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commissioner
- April 10: Celebrating 50 Years of Wild & Scenic Rivers with Zach Collier, owner of Northwest Rafting Company
All Bend series will be held at the 10 Barrel Brewing Company’s Eastside Banquet Room at 62950 Northeast 18th Street in Bend. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and talks start at 7 p.m.

- January 29: The Dynamic Geologic Wonders of Eastern Oregon with Scott Burns, Professor of Geology at Portland State University
- February 26: A Conversation with Warm Springs Tribal Elder Bruce Jim, Warm Springs Tribal Elder and Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commissioner
- March 26: Conservation Advocacy from Business to the Beltway with Erin Gaines, Advocacy Manager at Keen Footwear
- April 23: Notes From The Field with Oregon Natural Desert Association stewardship staff Ben Gordon and Michael O’Casey, and photographer Sage Brown
All Portland series events will be held at the First Congregational Church at 1126 SW Park Avenue in downtown Portland. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and talks start at 7 p.m.
